What is an accessory (extra) breast?

It is also known as axillary breast as it is most commonly found in the armpit or one or both sides. It is due to growth of small amounts of breast tissue in the armpit.It may appear as a small lump or a hanging fold of skin in the armpit often at the age of around 30 to 40 years.  It can be sometimes painful, often coinciding with the onset of periods.

Is accessory breast harmful?

They are totally harmless. However one thing is for sure they do not go away on their own.

What is the treatment option for accessory breast?

There is no non-surgical or medical treatment for them. However they can be easily removed by Surgery. Surgery involves liposuction and excision of the breast tissue. Post surgery normal contour of the armpit is restored

Does Surgery leave a scar?

There is a linear scar  within the armpit in an inconspicuous location.

What is the recovery period?

Surgery of accessory breast is done as a daycare procedure which means you will be discharged from the hospital on the same day. There is not much pain only mild discomfort. You are able to do light immediately after the surgery.

Once surgically removed does accessory breast come back?

No once surgically removed it will not come back.
